What is an Instagram story downloader?
An Instagram story downloader saves the photos and videos someone has posted to their story. Instagram deletes stories automatically after 24 hours and has no button for saving other people’s stories, so a downloader is the only way to keep a copy.
With SaveNext you paste the story’s link and get the original files — JPG for photo stories, MP4 with sound for video stories. There’s no app to install and nothing to log in to.
How to copy an Instagram story link
- In the Instagram app: open the story, tap the ⋯ (More) button in the corner — or the paper-plane share icon — and choose Copy link.
- On a computer: open the story on instagram.com and copy the address from your browser bar. It looks like instagram.com/stories/username/1234567890….
- From a DM: if a friend sent you a story, open it from the chat and copy its link the same way.
Only stories from public accounts can be downloaded.
Will the account owner see that I viewed their story?
Not because of SaveNext. When our servers fetch a story, they don’t log in to any Instagram account, so nothing is added to the story’s viewer list and no notification is sent.
Good to know: if you open the story in the Instagram app yourself to copy its link, Instagram records that view as usual — exactly as if you had watched it normally. Downloading through SaveNext afterwards doesn’t add a second view.
How to download Instagram stories on iPhone
- Copy the story link from the ⋯ or share menu.
- Open SaveNext in Safari and tap Paste.
- Tap Download. Photos can be saved with a long-press → Save to Photos; videos go to Files → Downloads, where you can tap share → Save Video.
How to download Instagram stories on Android
- Copy the story link in the Instagram app.
- Open SaveNext in Chrome, paste the link and tap Search.
- Tap Download. The file is saved to your Downloads folder and appears in your gallery.
Stories are vertical 9:16 files, so they look exactly right when played back full-screen on your phone.
How to download Instagram stories on PC or Mac
Open the story on instagram.com, copy the URL from the address bar, paste it into SaveNext, click Search and download the files you want. It’s a comfortable way to keep stories from brands, news accounts or events you follow — on a big screen, with the original resolution.
What you can’t download (and why)
- Private accounts. Their stories are only visible to approved followers.
- Close Friends stories. These are shared with a hand-picked list and are never public.
- Expired stories. After 24 hours a story is gone — unless the owner added it to a highlight. In that case, paste the highlight’s link instead; the Instagram highlights downloader page shows where to find it.
The rule is simple: if Instagram doesn’t show it publicly, SaveNext can’t fetch it.
Story formats and quality
Stories are published as full-screen vertical media. SaveNext downloads them in the exact form Instagram stores:
| Story type | File type | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Photo story | JPG | 1080 × 1920 |
| Video story | MP4 with audio | 1080 × 1920, up to 60 seconds per clip |
| Shared post in a story | JPG | 1080 × 1920 (as displayed) |
| Story with music sticker | MP4 with audio | 1080 × 1920 |
Respect privacy when saving stories
Saving a story is useful — keeping a brand’s announcement, a news update or a story you were tagged in — but it’s never an excuse to monitor or harass someone. Only save stories for personal use, never repost someone’s story without their permission, and if someone has blocked you, respect that choice. Read more in our Terms of Service.
