What is an Instagram Reels downloader?
An Instagram Reels downloader saves a Reel as a regular video file on your phone or computer. Instagram’s own “Save” button only bookmarks a Reel inside the app; if the creator deletes it or goes private, it’s gone. A downloaded Reel is an MP4 file you own a copy of, and you can watch it offline, edit it or archive it.
SaveNext is a Reels downloader that runs in your browser. It works with any public Reel link and returns the original 1080p file with audio. For regular feed videos, the Instagram video downloader works the same way.
How to copy an Instagram Reel link
- In the app: open the Reel, tap the paper-plane icon on the right side, then tap Copy link.
- From the Reels tab on a profile: open the Reel first, then use the same share icon.
- On a computer: open the Reel on instagram.com and copy the URL from the address bar — it looks like instagram.com/reel/….
Reels shared to you in a DM work too, as long as the Reel itself is public: open it from the chat and copy its link.
How to download Instagram Reels on iPhone
- Copy the Reel link in the Instagram app.
- Open Safari, go to SaveNext and tap Paste — a valid link is searched right away.
- Tap Download MP4, then Download in the Safari prompt.
- To add it to your camera roll, open Files → Downloads, tap the Reel, tap the share icon and choose Save Video.
Once it’s in Photos you can trim it, add it to an album or share it anywhere, just like a video you recorded yourself.
How to download Instagram Reels on Android
- Tap the share icon on the Reel and choose Copy link.
- Open SaveNext in Chrome and tap Paste.
- Tap Download MP4. The Reel is saved to Downloads and shows up in your gallery within seconds.
Tip: add SaveNext to your home screen from Chrome’s menu (Add to Home screen) and it opens like an app — download a Reel in two taps.
How to download Instagram Reels on PC or Mac
Open the Reel on instagram.com, copy the address from your browser bar, paste it into SaveNext and click Download MP4. The vertical 1080 × 1920 file is ready for editing in Premiere Pro, CapCut desktop, Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve.
Downloading Reels with audio and without a watermark
Two questions come up more than any other: will the Reel have sound? and will there be a watermark?
Audio: yes. The downloaded MP4 contains the same audio track that plays on Instagram — music, voice-over and effects together.
Watermark: SaveNext doesn’t add one. Instagram’s own download option (available for some public Reels) adds a watermark with the creator’s username and can leave out licensed music. Because SaveNext returns the original file, neither happens here. Anything that’s part of the video itself — captions, stickers or a logo the creator added while editing — stays, because it’s baked into the pixels.
| Method | Quality | Audio | Watermark |
|---|---|---|---|
| SaveNext | Original 1080p | Original track | None added |
| Instagram’s download option | Re-encoded | Licensed music may be removed | Username watermark |
| Screen recording | Re-compressed | Can drift out of sync | App buttons in frame |
| Saving to Collections | Not a file | In app only | n/a — disappears if deleted |
Tips for creators: back up and repurpose your own Reels
If you create Reels, downloading your own posts is the quickest way to keep a clean archive — especially if you edited inside Instagram and never exported the final version. With the MP4 in hand you can:
- Re-upload it to YouTube Shorts or TikTok without a watermark that platforms may down-rank.
- Cut highlights for a portfolio, press kit or client report.
- Keep a safe copy in case your account is ever locked or hacked.
Want the photos from your posts too? Paste their links into the same box — see the Instagram photo downloader for tips.
Reel not downloading? Quick fixes
- Private account: Reels from private profiles can’t be downloaded.
- Wrong link: make sure it contains /reel/ or /reels/ and came from the share menu.
- Removed Reel: if it no longer plays on Instagram, it can’t be fetched.
- Muted Reel: if Instagram muted the audio for copyright reasons, the file will be silent too.

Is it OK to download Instagram Reels?
Saving a Reel to watch later is personal use and widely accepted. Re-posting it is different: the video — and often the music — belongs to someone else. Ask the creator before re-sharing, credit them clearly, and never monetise another person’s Reel. If you own content that’s being misused, our DMCA page explains what to do.
