What is an Instagram photo downloader?
An Instagram photo downloader is a tool that saves the original image file from an Instagram post. Instagram deliberately hides the “save image” option that every other website has, so the usual options are a screenshot (low quality) or a bookmark (not a file at all).
SaveNext fixes that. Paste the link of any public post and you get each photo as a full-resolution JPG — no cropping, no interface on top, no quality loss. If the post contains videos as well, they appear alongside the photos — and Reels, video posts and stories work in this box too. For video tips, see the Instagram video downloader.
How to download all photos from a carousel post
Carousel posts — the ones with dots under the image — can hold up to 20 photos and videos. SaveNext loads every slide at once, so you don’t need to copy a separate link for each one.
- Copy the link of the carousel post (any slide works — the link is the same).
- Paste it into SaveNext and tap Search.
- Every slide appears as its own card. Tap Download JPG on the ones you want, or download them all one after another.
How to save Instagram photos on iPhone
- Copy the post link from the share menu in the Instagram app.
- Open SaveNext in Safari and tap Paste.
- Tap Download JPG. Safari may open the image full-screen — press and hold it and choose Save to Photos, or find it later in Files → Downloads.
How to save Instagram photos on Android
- Tap the share icon on the post and choose Copy link.
- Open SaveNext in Chrome, paste the link and tap Search.
- Tap Download JPG. The image goes to your Downloads folder and appears in your gallery right away.
How to download Instagram photos on PC or Mac
On instagram.com, right-clicking a photo doesn’t offer “Save image as…”, because Instagram places an invisible layer on top. Instead, copy the post URL from the address bar, paste it into SaveNext and click Download JPG. The full-resolution file lands in your Downloads folder, ready for Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva or Figma.
Instagram photo sizes and resolution explained
Instagram resizes every upload to a maximum width of around 1080 pixels and keeps the original aspect ratio within its limits. That’s the size SaveNext downloads — the best version that exists on Instagram’s servers. Photos can look sharper here than in a screenshot because a screenshot is limited by your screen size and adds its own compression.
| Photo shape | Aspect ratio | Typical download size |
|---|---|---|
| Square | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 px |
| Portrait | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 px |
| Tall portrait | 3:4 | 1080 × 1440 px |
| Landscape | 1.91:1 | 1080 × 566 px |
What people use downloaded Instagram photos for
- Your own posts: recover a photo you deleted from your phone but still have on Instagram.
- Mood boards: collect inspiration for interiors, outfits, tattoos, weddings or brand design.
- Recipes and infographics: keep step-by-step carousels readable offline.
- Printing memories: save photos from friends and family (with their blessing) for albums and frames.
Looking for someone’s profile picture? Paste their profile link into the same box — the Instagram DP downloader page explains where to find it.
Photos not loading? Check these first
- The post must be from a public account.
- To get a post’s photos, use the post link (it contains /p/) — a profile link gives you the profile picture instead.
- Archived or deleted posts can’t be downloaded.
- If only some slides appear, refresh and paste the link again — Instagram occasionally times out on very large carousels.
Using downloaded photos responsibly
Photographs are protected by copyright from the moment they’re taken. Personal use — keeping, printing or referencing — is generally fine; posting someone’s photo as your own is not. Ask before you reuse an image, credit the photographer, and read our Terms of Service for details.
